Even after a torrential, stadium-clearing downpour and a kickoff delayed by over an hour, Stockade drew a crowd of 1,057 people for its last home game of the regular season. We needed to not lose if we have any hope of going to the regional playoffs, and sure enough the team scored an equalizer goal after the 90 minute mark.
The energy in the stadium was incredible. Even I, a perennial sports un-enthusiast, can’t help getting swept up in the electricity that team can generate. There’s a huge appetite for local soccer in Kingston, and the Hudson Valley generally. It certainly helps that the team is run extremely professionally. I’m beyond proud of my tiny contribution as the official emcee — shouting “GOOOOOALLLLLL” at the top of my lungs into the mic is always thrilling.
